Professional filmmakers would never stray away from this rule, yet in the real world, you'd get way better results if you did.  Don't let these cinematic short film nerds scare you.  The alternative is much worse.  The 180 degree shutter rule is meant to be broken for youtube.  So many professionals on here will not abandon that rule, and if they forgot their ND filter, they stop down the shutter to like f22.  This not only looks like absolute gopro trash, it introduces diffraction, and shuts off your phase detect autofocus and turns it into Panasonic's worse nightmare.
