Summary

We climbed Ben Nevis today. Britain's highest mountain, 1,345 metres, starting from Glen Nevis Campsite first thing in the morning.
The conditions weren't kind. Cloudy from the start with light rain, which we expected. What we didn't fully expect was hitting the cloud layer halfway up and losing visibility almost completely, occasional breaks of five minutes where the mountain range appeared below us, then nothing. Higher up the temperature dropped sharply, layers came out, and then we hit the snow line. From there it was a complete whiteout. Zero visibility. Just white in every direction and the occasional silhouette of another hiker appearing through the cloud.
We summited in just under five hours. Bitter cold, no view, straight back down. The descent brought more wind and rain but also, once we dropped below the cloud, some of the best views of the whole climb. Back at the van for showers and dry clothes, then to the pub for a proper meal and a very well earned drink.
No panoramic summit photos. No perfect blue sky. Just the mountain exactly as it was and honestly, that felt more real than anything else could have.
