I just survived a brutal bout of norovirus (shoutout to my local ER 🙏)… and it immediately made me think of Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death - that story where rich people lock themselves away from a plague and try to throw a party til it's over.

In this video, I break down Poe's messy life, the disease-haunted world of the 1840s (tuberculosis, cholera, all the fun stuff), and why he wrote the story. Shout out to all the middle schoolers who will be using this video to help them write their reports. Best of luck to you.
