People are talking about 8k as future proofing. 1080p is the actual sweet spot, and completely future proof. 4k is often overkill, and actually less flattering to humans than 1080p. It will be many generations before 1080p looks bad. Maybe when 16k is the norm, 1080p will look a little washed out :) 1080p vs 4k and 8k, the real truth.
