In this episode of Van Life Unfiltered Season 2, things take a stressful turn. We woke up for our final morning at Caledonian Cabins hoping to finally get out on the canoe before leaving… but once again, the Scottish weather had other plans. After accepting defeat and saying goodbye to this beautiful place, it was finally time to deal with the issue we’d been trying not to think about. The van. For the past few days we’d been hearing a worrying noise while driving, so after stocking up on food and supplies, we found a safe place to jack the van up and inspect it properly. And the news wasn’t good. After checking the front wheel, we discovered that the wheel bearing has significant play, meaning we can’t keep driving long distances without risking bigger damage or even a breakdown. We managed to source the replacement part, but there’s another problem… To replace the bearing properly, the hub needs to be pressed out using a hydraulic press, something we obviously don’t carry around in the van. At this point, we think we’ve found a possible solution… but whether it actually works or not is something we’ll have to figure out tomorrow.
